File #005 action : video
[A weekend of lost memories - it sat poorly with her, especially when she went back over her notes and found them missing as well. The dates for the weekend were written in her hand, but anything she'd written had been erased. Or maybe she hadn't written anything. The most concerning thing was that now that the weekend had ended, several people had gone missing or returned. Two days was a long time to lose her bearings and it made her restless. Which was why she'd gone to the shop to look around for anything useful.
Last thing she expected was to find the glove and eyeglass set - something so useful just left here like it was a new toy to be experimented with by anyone in the village. Something about it drew her to using it, but after the first day and the headaches, she realized it was probably something that belonged to someone. Which is why a few days later, after the headaches settle, she asks the village.]
Agent Carter reporting in with a few questions for the village.
One: Has anyone lost a pair of these? [She holds up the sunglasses, labeled ARI on the side to the camera.] I located them in the shop - interesting technology you have. I'd like to return them, if you're inclined to receive them.
[It packs one hell of a punch anyway, and she does not want that anymore. Peggy rubs her temple as he sets the glasses down out of view.]
Two: Sparring partners - hand to hand combat, preferably advanced non-magic practitioners. Willing to train people new to it, but more looking for practice myself. Can also train or spar in weapons - guns or knives specifically.
Three: On a more personal note, to my roommates - if you don't start cleaning your areas and picking up your things, I will do it for you.
[She looks straight into the camera with her usual no-nonsense look in her eyes.]
You will not enjoy it if I am forced to do so.
That is all.

[Compensate for the difference in height from the paper target to the dummy and the weight of the axe. Peggy knows how long it took her to get it all right, and she'd rather see her experience serve someone else faster. She strides forward and digs the axe out with one hand, the other holding the dummy steady, then walks back to Levi, handing it to him.]
The loose tongues are easy enough to eavesdrop on with the journals. It's surprising how little people lock away when they're talking.

A perceived peace can make fools of us all.

[Time to go retrieve the axes again. She pulls each one out, puts them in their holsters at her side and then reaches up to untie the ruined dummies.]
Can you bring me the other two? Just there, leaned up against the building.
no subject
[he glances over to the place she's indicated, and moves to bring them - they're both just about the same size he is, but he has little trouble bringing both over and helping her swap them out with the others.]
What about you? What sort of terrors are there in your world?
no subject
[She ties a strong knot on the dummy to keep it hanging until its head is also severed and frowns.]
A hundred different ones - nothing quite like these large titans of yours, but threatening nonetheless. We just finished a world war against a psychotic dictatorship and are now trying to round up the last of an off-shoot fringe group bent on global domination. [Even after stopping the Red Skull and all that Steve sacrificed, HYDRA remained a thorn in their side.] And it seems that when one threat stops, five more spring up.

[which isn't to say that people don't already fight and kill people - just not quite on as large of a scale...although that might change depending on how this coups they're planning goes. All Levi can do is trust Erwin, even if it might get all of them killed by execution. That'd certainly make some people happy - formally executing all of the members of the Survey corps. Grand.]
Ironic that we're trying to save humanity when people seem bent on destroying themselves anyway.

She tied the knot on the second dummy and sighed.]
Not everyone is; I suppose that's what we fight to save - the ones who want to live in peace without fear of being harmed by men with bad intentions.
[She slipped the axes out of their holsters and handed one over to Levi.]
Ever the uphill battle, isn't it.

[He takes the axe from her, getting used to its weight and balance a little more. Tosses it lightly, catches it by the handle again, then hurls it forward with more strength and speed than the last few times.
The dummy falls to the ground, severed at the neck.]
I have no illusions about what people are capable of doing to each other.

But here, at least, there is relative peace - until the drafts start again. Then we might just be needing men like you and me again.

[She frowned, thinking back on all of the drafts and missions she'd been on.]
There are missions running constantly, unique ones that crop up every so often, but drafts come when the Third Party attacks or the Malnosso choose to go on the offensive. Residents have hardly any notice save for a message telling people to report to the teleporters or be dragged there against their will.
no subject
Is there no way at all to get out of these drafts?
no subject
[Her arms folded over her chest as she remembered TERRACE and the little boy's death. They'd done everything they could to keep children from the field and Henry had still run out and died. Both Bucky and Steve had been wrecks until the boy returned, and even after that... Well, she knew why Steve wanted to have Henry live with them.]
All you can do is be ready when the time comes - you have a night, at most, to coordinate, and then time before the battle begins, but never count on anything going smoothly. War is war.
no subject
[Especially given that lately, their plans are only thinly veiled failures. There's little about them that could be construed as success, but luckily those successes still count enough that the sacrifices appear to be worth it.
Well, in some ways. Not everyone thinks so.]
So what happens to the people who can't fight?
no subject
Unfortunately, we can't stop people from going onto the field - there just aren't enough fighters compared to non-combatants to watch them all.
no subject
[He feels as though he possibly already knows the answer, but it's good to hear those fears either confirmed or denied. Perhaps that is something where they could do some benefit - to help prevent any needless deaths during these drafts.
Even if people come back again, there's no point in making someone go through death at all. Especially not in war.]
no subject
[She looks at Levi, knowing she doesn't have to tell him what happens when something goes wrong.]
no subject
...Sounds just like home.
no subject
This place is always open to training if you like - I keep the dummies and the axes in a spare room, but I can show you where they are.
no subject
That'd be helpful, thanks.
no subject
First room there, flat number 6 is unoccupied. Should it gain an occupant, I'll move the equipment and let you know.

Do you want to continue or are there other questions you'd like to ask?
no subject
[he'll have more later, very likely.]
What's next?
no subject
What do you usually do to train here?
