[A weekend of lost memories - it sat poorly with her, especially when she went back over her notes and found them missing as well. The dates for the weekend were written in her hand, but anything she'd written had been erased. Or maybe she hadn't written anything. The most concerning thing was that now that the weekend had ended, several people had gone missing or returned. Two days was a long time to lose her bearings and it made her restless. Which was why she'd gone to the shop to look around for anything useful.

Last thing she expected was to find the glove and eyeglass set - something so useful just left here like it was a new toy to be experimented with by anyone in the village. Something about it drew her to using it, but after the first day and the headaches, she realized it was probably something that belonged to someone. Which is why a few days later, after the headaches settle, she asks the village.]

Agent Carter reporting in with a few questions for the village.

One: Has anyone lost a pair of these? [She holds up the sunglasses, labeled ARI on the side to the camera.] I located them in the shop - interesting technology you have. I'd like to return them, if you're inclined to receive them.

[It packs one hell of a punch anyway, and she does not want that anymore. Peggy rubs her temple as he sets the glasses down out of view.]

Two: Sparring partners - hand to hand combat, preferably advanced non-magic practitioners. Willing to train people new to it, but more looking for practice myself. Can also train or spar in weapons - guns or knives specifically.

Three: On a more personal note, to my roommates - if you don't start cleaning your areas and picking up your things, I will do it for you.

[She looks straight into the camera with her usual no-nonsense look in her eyes.]

You will not enjoy it if I am forced to do so.

[It's more the fact that he will even call Thor his brother now.]

Not all brothers go to war with each other though - that's a bit of a stretch even for sibling rivalry.

Hah. Well it does get a bit complicated, there. But you don't actually know that story in full, do you. I can't imagine Thor has been eager to tell anyone. His capacities for denial are nothing short of...heroic.

I imagine no one knows the story in full except for the two of you - and, like you said, Thor has his own way of looking at things.

I heard the story from Barton, at least insofar as Barton tells stories.

[He laughs.] Then I shouldn't recommend relying upon that.

Though I suppose it is a nice story to cast me as villain, and I excel at playing that role.

And if not that role, which would you have picked for yourself?

The one I was always told would be mine was that of King.

[He shrugs.]

While that still holds a certain appeal, definitely not in this place. But either way, 'tis much better than tool or puppet or discarded relic.

Now that I'm dead, though, that opens up the field in an interesting way. I'm still deciding.

We have antidotes for that where I'm from and if push comes to shove, there's an item that takes care of everything in one go! They taste terrible but they get the job done.

Not exactly. [She swallows a lump that was forming in her throat.] We only take something off a person if we've had to kill them.

You don't have to tell me that.

[Especially given that lately, their plans are only thinly veiled failures. There's little about them that could be construed as success, but luckily those successes still count enough that the sacrifices appear to be worth it.

Well, in some ways. Not everyone thinks so.]

So what happens to the people who can't fight?

[Discarded relic - he knows who that jab is aimed at and purses her lips.]

I suppose now you could chose any path you wanted: hero, saviour, villain, family man.

[Oh Peggy. Some day you will realize that all of Loki's nastiest barbs are actually aimed at himself.]

I suppose so.

Can't say I'm enamored of hero. It already got me killed rather thoroughly once.

Being a hero nearly always does.

If you could choose a new story then, what would you choose here?

[Dryly:] You sell the concept so well.

I haven't yet decided. Though I am enjoying returning to my roots, I suppose.

[Handy...she could use some of those.] I take it those items aren't here?

...And hopefully it isn't often that you have to kill. It's never pleasant.

If you need to be sold on it, then being a hero isn't for you. There's always the role of anti-hero - perhaps that would suit you better?

If you're returning to your roots, should I expect to see you around sometime? Or is stopping by the flat out of the question.

I think that comes as a surprise to no one. I thought I was already a bit... anti-hero. Rather like antimatter.

[He raises an eyebrow.] I don't take your meaning.

I'm not familiar with the latter, but considering what you'd done here for the residents - anti-hero might fit you well.

And if someone as smart as you can't figure out an invitation when he hears one, I'm a bit concerned.

Oh, does that mean I get to be nice when the mood takes me, while still being an utter bastard? I could live with that.

[The eyebrow goes up more.] Can you expect a man who has never seen the color red to know what it is when he finally encounters it?

It sounds like what you enjoy doing anyway, Loki. [Teasing, lightly - tentatively, because she doesn't want to push too hard and lose her line to him.]

Well, this is the colour red and now you know. Thor would want to see you and I can distract Steve for a bit should you ever want to be over.

Citizens organize - try to keep them back behind the lines, closer to the medical tents and base camp. It doesn't always work, but for the youngest of them or those completely incapable of fighting, there is usually an organized group left behind to guard and the rest head out.

Unfortunately, we can't stop people from going onto the field - there just aren't enough fighters compared to non-combatants to watch them all.

I tend to do what I want, as a general rule. It's worked out better that way.

Hah. Well, if your concern is Thor, he does know where I live. [He somehow doubts this has entirely been about Thor, but he'll play this out and see what comes from it.] Though I'll admit that I find the idea of poisoning the atmosphere of your apartment with my offensive villainy rather charming, since I doubt Steve will ever be that distracted.

[And she's there early because, well, it's her. She's wear a blue skirt suit and heels, not the usual clothing one would wear to a sparring match and is waiting at the entrance to one of the battle chambers, sitting on a chair and filing her nails.]

[Except for the part where you got yourself killed, Loki - or supposedly got yourself killed. She's never sure what to believe from you.]

Yes, but this is Thor - he's a wonderful man, but you did see my message about cleaning that started this whole thing, didn't you?

And like I said, don't antagonize Steve when you're over and you're free to come by. I'll put the kettle on even, give you a proper cup of tea.

Do a lot of people die, then?

[He feels as though he possibly already knows the answer, but it's good to hear those fears either confirmed or denied. Perhaps that is something where they could do some benefit - to help prevent any needless deaths during these drafts.

Even if people come back again, there's no point in making someone go through death at all. Especially not in war.]
