I actually find it rather interesting that those with no native talent of their own in the area are able to use these intermediaries... so that is something you may wish to keep in mind for yourself.
However, other magics still function as they should, so the fundamental rules of this reality are such as to allow it. All of the different methodologies, as a matter of fact, though I do not find that too terribly surprising once it's been accepted that the spirits are not necessary as intermediaries.
From my observations physics still functions classically as it has, and its laws are as amenable to alteration as ever they have been. But there is a spatial discontinuity that surrounds the area, in conjunction with the barrier that prevents us from leaving. The discontinuity effectively prevents magics from being extended through or beyond the barrier, which is quite annoying.
