[She's been in Luceti for a day now. A day was more than enough time for the wings to stop hurting, the shock to wear off, and for her to find her old uniform and dress a little less like a girl on her way to primary school in the summer. A day was long enough to learn that this place wasn't entirely hostile and that it was extensive, reaching from the beach to the mountains and out until she hit an invisible wall that seemed to cut her off from whatever lay beyond it.

A day was also long enough to realize she was stuck and that the book was a method of communicating with others. People seemed to talk freely over it and she wasn't the only one arriving either. Captain Nathan Spencer, Peter Parker, Eugene, Sue Richards, Noel Vermillion - names that meant nothing to her, but it indicated that people came and went here according to someone else's agenda.

It hadn't taken her long to find the Guide, either, and after skimming through it, she felt a bit more...well, level was probably the best way to describe it. She's taken to hiding out in the woods for now, waiting to assess the situation before she moved into town. Now there was just one problem that remained: revealing herself to the enclosure and to possibly hostile elements. ]

As I'm not the only person to recently arrive to this place and I'm sure you are all quite tired of repeating the same welcome speeches, let me introduce myself and be brief about it.

Agent Carter, British Royal Military.

Any information not to be found in the guide already so helpfully provided would be appreciated.

The art club is pretty new - we've had two meetings so far, and we have a meeting every month! - 'cause Rapunzel and I only juuuuuuuust founded it. But the other clubs - there's Brave Vesperia, and they...do things like build stuff for people [ uh. she's not totally sure actually, she's just vaguely aware of them 8| ] and then the SOS Brigaide, who do things like run the raffle they just did with prizes and also they run the Hydra Social Project, which is a huuuuuuge pen pal project which you should also join because it's a GREAT way to meet people! Oh and they have a dragon for dragon rides!!! And I think there's one other one with a lot of letters that's also military-like and stuff but I didn't pay too much attention to that one because it didn't sound like they were doing things I'd be able to do.

Other things you can do is go to school if you want, or teach at school if you talk to Sifu Raine, or maybe work someplace like the bakery or Seventh Heaven if they're hiring, so there's always lots to do and keeping busy is the key to a happy life!!!

By turning into an ice sculpture. He crashed into the Arctic. They found him some years into the 21st century and revived him. If I'm right, the serum preserved his body and kept him alive for all those years in the ice.

He is.

[And it’s probably only a matter of time before he responds to the entry himself, if he hasn’t already. Pepper wonders if it might not be better to let Bucky or Howard tell her the rest—that Steve’s here, that Steve survived back home, that he’s dead now—but they’ve already suffered so much. Bucky in particular.

Maybe it’ll be enough not to tell her everything. Or maybe she doesn’t even know Steve, although Pepper’s been here too long to count on that.]

And Steve Rogers?

Ah, so he is. [Because there goes the message and wow, what. That is just brain-breaking. She was certain he was lost to them and now here he is, talking to her like it's nothing. Luceti, you break her brain.

And Pepper, you break her heart. It takes her a moment to compose in order to answer that question and even when she does, it's a thin, cold voice as she presses back on emotions she hasn't wanted to feel for 4 years now.]

.....Yes. We worked together.

[She knew it. Like father like son.]

Always good to know. I suppose "settling in," isn't an option.

[She commends you for your tenacity, Barnes, even if it's in the wrong place. She even has a witty comeback for him, but it dies on her lips when he continues talking and lets out that little bomb of a certain Captain's residency.

If Barnes could be here, why not Steve? It isn't as if time matters, so yes, why not? Why not bring her here, four years after he disappeared and after she'd finally been getting back to some semblance of emotional neutrality over that? Why not?

She pauses longer still, trying to think of something smart to say, but she can't quite get it out. It just hurts. Even worse to think that maybe Steve doesn't even know what will happen to him, or them.]

If you wish to discuss the military, it can be done just as easily here. Until I've gathered enough about this town, I'd prefer not to put myself in the open.

A dry recitation can be done by monkeys with typewriters. I would hope I could look forward to more intelligent conversations than that on this network.

SHIELD values skill above almost anything else. A certain amount of... personality quirks are common.

That means Stark's search ended in failure and that they would never meet again. Not in their own world. It meant all the dimming hope was true and that this place has given her a chance, a cruel chance to see someone long dead to her, who she would only lose should they ever leave.]

Astonishing. [Businesslike, professional. She has to keep it together.] Erskine thought it could... But to think, all that time suspended in time. Were there any negative effects?

Oh, I plan to. The world is hardly going to help itself, now is it?

Quirks is one way to put it.

[Craziness is another. She remembers her time at the SSR fondly, despite all that happened.]

I would hope most agents could "wrangle" themselves well enough not to let things affect their work.

[Craziness is probably more accurate, but he was trying to be polite.]

One or two Agents maybe, but try putting together a few thousand people without someone to crack the whip.

[suddenly, she is v.. amused]

Are you saying you need a little guidance, Agent Barton?

Thought you should know.

[He doesn't tell her more than that. It's more than enough for a day, and his tone lightens easily after that.]

At least knock it down to 'Barnes.' I feel like I ought ta' salute you every three seconds.

[The silence stretches too long, and her words are too controlled after. There's more between Peggy and Steve than a working relationship, but if she's from 1949, then she's from years after Steve crashed.

When they all thought he had died.]

He's away from the village right now. [There's no way Pepper can tell Peggy about what happened after that reaction. But at least he'll be back. That's something.] He should be back any day though.

Have you found a place to stay?

Not from my understanding. The serum covered all the bases. [He huffs.] I swear when I die and meet Erskine in the afterlife I'll have to knock his head in and ask why he never wrote down even one portion of that formula. That thing is a miracle.

[And yes he knows already. But, in a way, he does succeed. After all, it was his future agency that found Steve. It's something, right?]

Anyway he's here. But he's busy. Do you promise not to slap him too hard for standing you up?

[Busy being dead anyway. But he'll do his best to make sure she won't know he died. Not his place and frankly, in her state of mind right now, it wouldn't do her well to break that news.]

Question is - why would you want it to be?

[And very talkative...! But Carter doesn't mind. Children will always have at least a little bit of a soft spot in her heart.

Even if 90% of what Ikki says just went right over her head and into the "will think about later because what even is having a dragon for dragon rides???" bin. Because what. Dragons?]

Better not to pay attention the military things just yet. Thank you for telling me about the clubs and places to work - it seems you do quite a bit to keep busy, hm?

You'd probably have to ask my CO or my SHIELD partner 'bout that, but since neither of them are here, I couldn't possibly comment.

[It'd be really silly for him to take this personally.]

Anyway, I'll see if I can get us some answers about this place for the next time I catch you... although by then, you may be way ahead of me. We'll see how it goes.
