[She's been in Luceti for a day now. A day was more than enough time for the wings to stop hurting, the shock to wear off, and for her to find her old uniform and dress a little less like a girl on her way to primary school in the summer. A day was long enough to learn that this place wasn't entirely hostile and that it was extensive, reaching from the beach to the mountains and out until she hit an invisible wall that seemed to cut her off from whatever lay beyond it.

A day was also long enough to realize she was stuck and that the book was a method of communicating with others. People seemed to talk freely over it and she wasn't the only one arriving either. Captain Nathan Spencer, Peter Parker, Eugene, Sue Richards, Noel Vermillion - names that meant nothing to her, but it indicated that people came and went here according to someone else's agenda.

It hadn't taken her long to find the Guide, either, and after skimming through it, she felt a bit more...well, level was probably the best way to describe it. She's taken to hiding out in the woods for now, waiting to assess the situation before she moved into town. Now there was just one problem that remained: revealing herself to the enclosure and to possibly hostile elements. ]

As I'm not the only person to recently arrive to this place and I'm sure you are all quite tired of repeating the same welcome speeches, let me introduce myself and be brief about it.

Agent Carter, British Royal Military.

Any information not to be found in the guide already so helpfully provided would be appreciated.

I met him here. I'm from 2012.

[1949 means that Peggy's from almost the same time period as Howard. Pepper's relieved to hear it, for both their sakes.

But it also raises the question of who else Peggy knows.]

Does that mean you know Bucky Barnes too?

[And what about Steve?]

[This much he can't really spare her. It's a hell of a lot to take in on the first day but then, he'd wanted to know everything on his first day, like it would make sense of what the hell he'd been pulled into.]

1945. I'm guessin' you're a little later than that?

[Haha that's funny. ONLY NOT. That is a total dick move, Stark. 8(

....only wow, what. She knows Howard wouldn't joke about that, but how does that even... How does she even deal with that? Just dropped out of the blue like that? And with Howard being the messenger? Give her a moment, she doesn't want to get her feels all over you. Isn't she a nice friend?]

...I see. Where is he? I have to deck him for standing me up years ago.

You could say that. '49.

Sergeant James Barnes? Yes. I knew him briefly when we worked together.

I take it he's here as well?

[oh good Lord, Howard settles down? That isn't something she ever really expected. Not that she's all that surprised, really. A man of his status and his disposition couldn't run from it forever. She almost laughs at the thought, but realises that likely isn't very kind of her.]

I am indeed. [Acquainted? Lucky? Who knows.] 1949. Your past, I suppose.

It stands for Tactical Arms and Security Council - so, as you can guess, their business is military intelligence.

[There's a thoughtful pause before he adds:]

I owe their engineers my life.

[After the accident, it had meant all the world to have been approached during his rehabilitation leave and to have gotten that second chance at life. And he'd been all too glad to set aside lingering personal problems to take on the perilous rescue mission they'd assigned him. God, it had been good to move again, to feel independent and free and stronger than he'd ever been.]

[His best friend to be honest.]

C'mon still not over that? Well, if you must know, the bigshot hero made it past the airplane crash. You're gonna be shocked at the news about it.

[aw, now there are more feels :( ]

A woman never forgets, Stark. [Some food for thought. Also, disconnecting from this conversation emotionally forever now. Science and intelligence officer is leading the way while the rest of her just goes into a mini-shock coma.] ...Then the formula worked better than Erskine ever could have predicted. How does one even survive something like that?

Scientists are our futures, Captain. Something I'm glad to hear from someone who understands.

[So much like her branch. She gets it and it's nice to hear someone who isn't questioning her place in the hierarchy.]

That would be the case. From the looks of it, you've already figured out how cute time can be here. It's kind of irrelevant.

[That's how he ended up with a dad younger than him. No big.]

So you can consider me the refined, state-of-the-art Stark, Agent Carter.

[It's not as late as some, but late enough. There's a longer pause while he tries to think of how to say it. Might as well get this much out of the way.]

I'm on borrowed time right now, but don't worry about that. Still up for that dance any time.

...Yeah.

[He smiles to himself unseen, a small, pursed-lipped smile.]

You know, I think you'd fit right in with TASC. They could always use more people like you.

[Some of what Smoker's seen of science... kind of is like this... so.....]

Not usually at any rate. But evil people hardly need an excuse to justify themselves.

The title of refined and state-of-the-art depends on whether or not you've managed to blow your lab up yet.

And yes, I'm learning quickly how strange a place this can be.

Unfortunately, Captain, my loyalties are rather tied at the moment. [And the foreseeable future] But perhaps we could work something out.

Hopefully there are still heroes in the world to stop them then.

[No. No no no no. The latest of the set. The dance? He couldn't be hinting at what she's thinking of. Not so long after it's been closed and done for her. It takes her a minute to talk again and when he gets his reply, it's clipped and professional, detached from whatever it is she's thinking about.]

I'm afraid I'm not up for any dancing, Sergeant.

Depends on your idea of "heroes," but I suggest doing your best yourself.

[He will not dignify that with a response ~~because it is true~~.]

It's a lesson well learned. Though I'll be up front with you - you never quite get the hang of it. So - don't expect that.

[Because the second you think you've got it? That's when you realize you don't.]

[Understood. Hell, it was possible they weren't even from the same time or even world.]

...How's coffee sometime? [He can't help but let it slip, wondering briefly if a casual half-joke will bite him in the ass. Oh well - what's life without taking some risks?]

If nothing else, it'd be nice just to see who I've been talking to.

[He laughs.] There are much more fun ways to do that than a dry recitation of facts.

Terrifying. Manipulative.

And probably the most competent person I've ever met.

A- oh! Of course. Where are my manners.

[That is a little embarrassing, needing to be prompted to even introduce himself properly, and he clears his throat self-consciously. Even if he been a little on-edge in their new lap on luxury, he can at least be civil with the people he does contact.]

Jack Holden. Just 'Jack,' is fine.

Worth a try.

[He's going for a lighter tone but his heart's not in it. Technically Steve's really the latest of their group from the 40s but that's a whole 'nother story to get into.

He leans back, and there's a soft, frustrated exhale before he's looking at the book again.]

Look Carter, you just got here and I don't wanna... There's a lot to take in, so I'm sorry I can't put this to you later, but I'm sure someone's gonna mention it. [Can't be easy, after having years to deal with the loss, but someone will tell her or ask as soon as she mentions where she's from, if his own introduction is anything to go by, so he spits it out.] Steve's here too.
